The Great Steppe Sommelier Competition is an annual series of professional wine events created to unite the countries of Central Asia through wine, promote the development of the region’s wine culture, and increase its recognition worldwide.
Each event in the series represents a separate stage. The stages are held in Tashkent, Baku, Ulaanbaatar, Bishkek, and Astana. Each stage consists of a short educational course, the sommelier competition itself, a wine salon, and various additional activities.

| The Great Steppe Sommelier Cup stage in Ulaanbaatar will take place on May 6. We have prepared a training camp for you - BOOT CAMP - an educational course aimed at achieving several goals: • Train participants on the selected topic of the competition stage, theory training takes place ONLINE; • Provide participants with basic industry standards; • Evaluate the knowledge of the participants and highlight their strengths and weaknesses; • Provide an idea of sommelier competitions; • All this is aimed at the development of the wine market. The duration of OFFLINE training is 2 days. Each day consists of 5-6 hours divided into 2 parts: • Restaurant service • Tasting session The fee for participation in BOOT CAMP is €50. |
In 2025, the “Sommelier of the Great Steppe” competition was held in Mongolia for the first time, marking an important milestone in the development of the region’s professional community.
Participants demonstrated a high level of preparation, and the final results highlighted the rapidly growing interest in wine culture in the country.
According to the results of the competition, the winners were:
1st place — Bolormaa Nyamgerel
2nd place — Narangarav Lkhagvasuren
3rd place — Tserenchimeg Gurbadam
The three finalists earned the right to represent Mongolia at the Grand Final in Azerbaijan, where they competed alongside the strongest representatives of the Great Steppe countries. Their participation became a достойный дебют on the international stage and demonstrated a high level of training, professionalism, and commitment to growth.
